The Dickies
All This And Puppet Stew
(Fat Wreck Chords advance CD)
KKKK
Veteran punks come up with the goods yet again.

In a just and fair world, The Dickies would be revered and worshipped as breathlessly as the Ramones were. Formed in the Los Angelean punk scene of the late 70's, the Dickies were never really about anger or alienation and were somehow all the more irresistable because of it. Without The Dickies, there would be no Descendants, no Offspring and no Blink 182.
Not quite the work of genius that was 1995's 'Idjit Savant', 'All This And Puppet Stew' is still a fantastic half hour of pogo punk. As you would expect from a band who have been together longer than many punks have been alive. The Dickies can really play, play like NOFX, Green Day or Weezer can play. But it's the addictive melody and almost old-fashioned detail of the songs that really sets this band apart.

The Dickies
Banana Splits A & M April 1979

"The idea was to make a lot of money. Drive a Mercedes and live in Bel Air with a pool."
BILLY CLUB, 1979

Bingo, Fleagle, Drooper and Snork are remembered by successive generations.
The Dickies never repeated the success of this high-speed take on the classic TV theme.

One in a long line of ludicrous covers, Banana Splits was released two years after the LA garage band's raucous live show and predeliction - for interesting threads a review at the time described the bassist's "yellow flasher's raincoat" and the guitarist wearing "women's lace panties on his head" - brought them to the attention of ex-John's Children manager John Hewlett. Recognising the genius in their Ramones-flavoured power-punk and 100mph cover of Sabbath's Paranoid, he got them a worldwide A & M deal.
